A love of helping people is what drives St. Cloud State University junior Bryce Daiker to get involved on campus and pursue a career in biochemistry and molecular biology. His parents are both SCSU alumni, and Daiker decided to follow in their footsteps when he participated in Big Sing during his high school career. The choir event was hosted by SCSU, which left Daiker with a great first impression of the campus.
Growing up, Daiker always had an interest in biology and animals. He chose biochemistry and molecular biology majors to continue his passions while simultaneously helping people. Additionally, Daiker has another goal of studying epigenetics in depth during his time at SCSU.
On campus, he’s extremely involved with the SCSU community. He’s on the speech and debate team, band and choir, Vex-U Robotics, Campus Affairs and Writers Club, and is a senator with the Student Government Association.
In his position as a senator of the SGA, Daiker has a few goals and responsibilities. However, his true ambition is to improve communication between University faculty and advising as well as students and student government.
On top of this long list, Daiker is the founder and the president of SCSU’s Drama Club. He said he rebuilt the drama club for his appreciation of musical theater, which he has made many amazing connections through. His love of musical theater all started in high school, when Daiker and his friends joined the pit for their senior year musical. Through drama club, he hopes to share the joys community musical theater can bring.
Daiker believes the SCSU community is special because of the rich campus history and the talented students.
“The campus feels smaller, but we have a lot of big fish in a small pond,” he said.
The students aren’t the only thing that makes the SCSU community so special. Daiker said the faculty are huge contributors to what makes SCSU’s community thrive. He said faculty and staff such as Jason Woods, Brian Olson, Catharine Bushman, Scott Wells, Marlene Miller, Cynthia Hollenstein and Matthew Julius have all been accommodating and proud to show how much they care about their students.
“They are all very pleasant people to interact with,” he said. “I am very lucky that I get to be friends with my professors.”
